According to observers from the Society for the Preservation of Nature, at least 6000 storks have been seen in the skies above Israel. There are nine observation and research stations in Israel. Thousands of birds have been seen in Lake Hula in the north of Israel. The birds use the lake as a resting spot and enjoy the plentiful fish to be found in the lake. Among the birds that come to Lake Hula are eagles; water birds such as pelecaniformes, ducks, black and white storks, egrets and herons; and songbirds such as the wagtail. Thousands of cranes are expected in the autumn. This year's bird migration has been very unusual. In the spring they began their northern migration late, and now have appeared in Israel fully ten days sooner than normal. Storks generally appear over Israel in late August or early September. About one-half billion storks fly over Israel each season. There are three main migration paths in Israel. The eastern path covers the Golan, Tiberius, the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and from there they turn westward into the Negev and Sinai. The second primary path cuts across the mountain ridges, from the Galilean Mountains, the Jezreel Valley, the Mountains of Samaria, the Judean Mountains, the center of the inland plain, to the area around Beersheva and on to the Sinai. Some birds take a third path, the least important of the three, from the Mountains of Edom in Jordan to the Eilat Mountains and then southward.

Low ground pressure with high air pressure in the upper layers above the Region

Synoptic maps for today:Today expected a low air pressure in the ground, 1005 millibars, with a high pressure area over the Region in the upper layers.Light haze is expected over the Region in the upper layers.500hPa geopotential height in 00Z was 589,the temperature in this high was minus 0.3 degrees Celsius. The temperature in 700 millibars was 16.0 degrees Celsius. The temperature in 850 millibars ,1500m was 25.6 degrees Celsius. In the morning will be partly cloudy with a low clouds on the coastal strip. The inversion base height will be on 498 meters height. In Europe:a low air pressure will cause Rainy weather accompanied by thunder and lightning storms in the Balkans region to Italy.Another low pressure area in northeastern Germany make heavy rains in this region..High pressure zone in Western Europe,in Western Europe and England will by a convenient weatherRussia expected local rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms.A high air pressure over the eastern Mediterranean make a hot and stable weather. The temperatures will be lower than the average 1-2 celsius degrees. In Western and Central Europe as well the in the British Isles. In Eastern Europe and Russia, the temperature will be high temperature than the normal by 2-5 celsius degrees. In Arctic will be above the average by 3.3 celsius degrees. In israel will by high temperature than the normal by 2-3 celsius degrees.

Research global warming Effects israel

is israel getting wermer? The temperature up in israel in 30 years between 1980-2010 .The temperature in 850mb=1500m is rise by 0.70 degree Celsius.Data from July 2011 shows that the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere is about 391.26PPM

Low ground pressure with high air pressure in the upper layers above the Region

Synoptic maps for today:Today expected a low air pressure in the ground, 1003 millibars, with a high pressure area over the Region in the upper layers.Light haze is expected over the Region in the upper layers.500hPa geopotential height in 00Z was 583,the temperature in this high was minus 3.9 degrees Celsius. The temperature in 700 millibars was 13.8 degrees Celsius. The temperature in 850 millibars was 22 degrees Celsius. In the morning will be partly cloudy with a low clouds on the coastal strip. The inversion base height will be on 450 meters height. In Europe: a low air pressure will cause rainy weather in Britain and France, local rains are expected in Scandinavia.Warm front in Eastern Europe and Russia is expected to cause heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning storms in the area..Low pressure area in the ground in northeastern Black Sea may cause rains accompanied by thunderstorms in this area. The temperatures will be lower than the average 1-2 celsius degrees. In Western and Central Europe as well the in the British Isles. In Eastern Europe and Russia, the temperature will be high temperature than the normal by 0-4 celsius degrees. In Arctic will be above the average by 3.1 celsius degrees. In israel will by high temperature than the normal by 1-2 celsius degrees.

Global Warming and the Sun's Activities

Recently we have reported that sunspot activity has weakened in the past few years. This has caused a slight decrease in global temperatures; and global temperatures are expected to decrease further in upcoming years as the sun's activities continue to wane. What exactly are sunspots and how do they affect us? Sunspots are relatively "cool" areas on the surface of the sun. They appear darker than the hotter, surrounding areas on the surface of the sun. Sunspots are characterized by powerful, swirling magnetism which causes solar eruptions, sending an enormous stream of particles from within the sun outward into space. These particles are often called "solar wind". When they eventually reach Earth, they affect us in several ways. Two common effects are the "Northern Lights" caused by magnetic storms in the atmosphere; and a general increase in global temperatures. When sunspot activity reaches its cyclical maximum, there are many solar explosions, sending huge quantities of particles to Earth. Conversely, while sunspot activity never reaches zero in any given year, it does decrease cyclically. In that case, the amount of solar particles to reach Earth decreases substantially. There is an observable cycle in sunspot activity that has been consistent for thousands of years. The number of sunspots goes from maximum to minimum in 5.5 years and then again from minimum to maximum in 5.5 years giving a sunspot cycle of 11 years. A similar cycle is not found on Earth; but a reduction in the number of sunspots may last decades, while still staying within the 11-year cycle. Such a reduction in sunspot activity correlates well with lower temperatures on Earth. The most extreme such case took place between 1645 and 1715 when sunspot activity almost ceased. Mere tens of sunspots were recorded yearly during this time as opposed to hundreds or more per year in normal times. This seventy-year period is now known as the Little Ice Age. The icepack near the poles expanded. Even though sunspots don't affect temperatures on Earth in strict accordance with the 11-year sunspot cycle, there is a strong possibility that increased sunspot activity can also increase temperatures on Earth.Since the Industrial Revolution began roughly in 1850, large amounts of greenhouse gases have been expelled into the atmosphere yearly, causing a warming of temperatures which reached its height in the last decade. An upcoming paper will deal more directly with this effect.

Global warming is Causing an Increase in Volcanic Activity

Before we get to the effect of global warming on volcanic activity let us review where we stand. What is the prognosis for more global warming? What is happening in the atmosphere that may indicate what may be in store for the planet?Since the Industrial Revolution began in about 1850, the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere has steadily risen. At the end of May 2011 the amount had reached 394 PPM, a significant increase in 161 years. In 1850 the amount was a mere 280 PPM. It has been demonstrated that the rise in greenhouse gas levels in the atmosphere has led to a significant rise in temperatures. As temperatures rise, the polar ice caps have begun to melt. Ice and snow at the poles have been measured by satellite since 1979. The satellite images show that especially at the North Pole, sea ice is decreasing. The September 2005 sea ice level in the North Pole area was the lowest since record keeping began. Not coincidentally, 2005 was also the hottest year since record keeping began. But ice hasn't melted only at the poles. Fresh water from continental glaciers has flown in large quantities to the sea. The combination of melting sea ice and melting glaciers has changed the balance of weight on Earth, such that the weight of sea water now is heavier than before. The effect is greater weight placed upon the continents causing an increase in earthquakes and an increase in volcanic eruptions. The increase in volcanic activity has resulted in an increase in atmospheric aerosols.Volcanoes are a geological phenomenon wherein lava rises from deep within the Earth until it is expelled into the atmosphere and onto the surrounding land area. Volcanoes are directly influenced by seismic activity. As earthquakes increase, the incidence of volcanic eruptions increases as well. A study was conducted on volcanic activity from 1890 to 2010. It shows a steady increase in volcanic activity. The greatest amount of volcanic activity has been recorded in the previous two years. There was, of course, fluctuation throughout this period as 1996 and 2003 were relatively quiet years and 1942 was the quietest year for volcanic activity in the entire time period. Nevertheless, the trend is toward increased volcanic activity. Volcanic eruptions emit large quantities of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, among them methane, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen. In addition, volcanic eruptions emit enormous quantities of aerosol particles. These particles can reach as high as 10-20 km in altitude during an eruption. The particles reflect radiation back to space and don't allow the radiation to heat the Earth, resulting in a decrease in temperatures. This effect of volcanic aerosols lasts about two years from the moment of the eruption, after which the particles slowly sink back to Earth. As volcanic activity increases and aerosols in larger number are emitted into the atmosphere, the trend will be for a continued decrease in temperatures. The reverse is also true: when volcanic activity eventually decreases there will be fewer aerosols in the atmosphere and temperatures will rise once more. It is statistically known that the warmest years on Earth were also the years with the least volcanic activity. In June, 1942, temperatures as high as 54°C were recorded in Israel. The amount of greenhouse gases stood at 303 PPM and the coefficient of aerosols in the air was 58. The number of volcanic eruptions was 30. Another minimum in volcanic activity was recorded in 1996, and 1998 was especially hot. In 1997, the amount of greenhouse gases had risen to 361.83 PPM and the aerosol coefficient stood at 101. The number of volcanic eruptions was 52. Another minimum was reached in 2003. That year greenhouse gases measured 374.86 PPM and the aerosol coefficient was 124. The number of volcanic eruptions that year was 64.The following graph shows the yearly volcanic eruptions from 1890-2010.Thus far we have discussed the rise in greenhouse gases in the last century, the concomitant rise in global temperatures, the increased melting of polar and continental ice, and the heightened weight of the seas causing increased seismic and volcanic activity. One final question remains unresolved: why are the latitudes near the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn cooler even as the poles are warming? The answer lies in the jet stream.

The Effect of Aerosols on Weather

Aerosols are small particles that drift in the air. They measure about 1-3 microns in size. The larger particles stay in the atmosphere for a shorter time than the smaller ones. The normal length of time aerosols stay in the atmosphere ranges from 1-7 days only. There are several different types of aerosols. Forest burning produces black, charred aerosols. The burning of gasoline or diesel fuel also produces aerosols. These two types of aerosols are anthropogenic, or man-made. There are also natural aerosols. The natural aerosols are more plentiful in the atmosphere than the man-made ones. Natural aerosols include desert particles and salt that is thrown into the atmosphere when sea and ocean waves hit coasts. Most aerosols drift at levels of between 600 mb and 850 mb of atmospheric pressure, or 1550 to 3500 meters altitude. As much as one billion tons of aerosol dust are lifted into the atmosphere each year. Most originates in the Sahara Desert and reaches much of the Earth as it drifts with the wind. Sulfurous air pollution and aerosols reach Israel primarily from Europe, borne on the prevailing northwesterly winds. Aerosols from the Sahara reach Israel mainly in the spring and autumn as the winds that prevail during the transitional periods are southwesterly or southeasterly.Volcanic eruptions are another major source of aerosols. These relatively small aerosols reach the stratosphere and linger for a longer time, sometimes for as much as two years. Because of their high altitude and longevity in the atmosphere, volcanic aerosols have two main effects that the other aerosols don't have. Volcanic aerosols reflect solar radiation back into space before it reaches the ground and can warm it. An excellent example of this phenomenon occurred after Mount Pinatubo erupted in 1991. World temperatures were one-half degree Celsius lower than average from 1992 to 1994.The second effect of volcanic aerosols in the atmosphere is a heightened reddish color at dusk. The global warming we have seen in recent years has caused large areas of the Earth to become drier. This drying has increased the amount of natural aerosols in the air. In addition, anthropogenic aerosols continue to increase. The result is a rise in the overall amount of aerosols in the atmosphere. There are three primary effects of the increase in aerosols in the air: on cloud formation, precipitation, and solar radiation that enters Earth's atmosphere. In the latter case, air-borne aerosols reflect radiation back into space, an effect also known as the Albedo Effect. As less radiation reaches the ground, temperatures decrease. However, there are also instances of aerosols increasing temperature. Forest burning and smoke, because of their color, heat the air at their altitude, about 1 km. The aerosols that originate over the Sahara contain mostly light-colored dust. They reflect back into space about 95% of the solar radiation that reaches them. The effect is a lowering of temperatures. The situation is further complicated by the thickness of the aerosol layer. Saharan dust in large quantities in the air and in a relatively thick layer can raise temperatures and not lower them.

Low ground pressure with high air pressure in the upper layers above the Region

Today expected a low air pressure in the ground, 1010 millibars, with a high pressure area over the Region in the upper layers500hPa geopotential height in 12Z going on 590,the temperature in this high will be minus 5 degrees Celsius. The temperature in 700 millibars will be 13 degrees Celsius. The temperature in 850 millibars will be 22 degrees Celsius. In the morning will be partly cloudy with a low clouds on the coastal strip. The inversion base height will be on 643 meters height. In Europe: a low air pressure will cause rainy weather in Britain.High air pressure over southern Europe.Sunny weather is expected to Spain,Portugal, Italy, Greece and Turkey. In Central Europe will be rains with thunderstorms. In Eastern Europe will by partly cloudy.A low air pressure in eastern Russia will cause rain with thunderstorms in this area.In Spain the temperature will be slightly higher than average. In most parts of Europe includes Turkey will be a lower temperatures from the average by 1-4 degrees celsius. In Russia unusually warm weather, the temperatures will be higher from the average by 1-4 degrees celsius. Decades

A Study Based on the Japanese Model The North of Israel will Become Dryer in the Coming DecadesAccording to a study done under the auspices of Tel Aviv University and presented by Professor Alpert to the Israel Meteorological Organization, a reduction in precipitation is expected to occur in the north of Israel in the coming decades. The study indicates that there will not be significant decrease in precipitation in the center and south of Israel. The study was based on three different models. The primary model was the Japanese, with a resolution of 20 kilometers. The other two models were an Israeli one and a German one. The study found that a 10% reduction in precipitation in the north, relative to the current average, is expected for the years 2020-2050. A further reduction of 10% is expected between 2050 and 2080. After 2080 precipitation levels will remain steady. This change in precipitation is not expected to happen in the center or south of Israel. In addition to the reduction in precipitation, temperatures are expected to rise, bearing with it greater evaporation. The combination of enhanced evaporation and reduced precipitation will lead to a severe water deficiency, especially in the north. The water shortage began already several decades ago and has worsened in stages. In the past thirty years the amount of available fresh water from the Sea of Galilee has fallen by 110 million cubic meters of water. This represents one-half of all the water pumped from the Sea of Galilee yearly. The study also revealed that the number of months with rain will be drastically reduced. The number of rain days will drop but when it does rain the storms will be more severe with higher than normal rainfall. There will be longer periods without rain in the rainy season. It will become commonplace for seven days to pass in the winter without rain. Agriculture especially will be adversely affected by the change in the frequency of rain and in the type of storms. Intense storms are far less helpful to farming than soft, long-lasting rain over a day or two. Many rivers will also dry up because of this change. An interesting question is: why will only the north be affected by this change? Dr. Amir Givati explains that the north of Israel is more influenced than the center or south by low pressure cells that traverse the Mediterranean Sea in the winter. The north will thus be influenced by changes in wind patterns while the center and south experience more localized rains.Boaz Dayan comments that we should take into full consideration that the study was based primarily on the Japanese model. Dayan says that, in his opinion, the changes Israel is experiencing in its climate stems from the more northern track of the jetstream in the winter coupled with a more northern thrust of the subtropic high in the winter. The clear result of these two phenomena is that rain systems in the eastern Mediterranean veer to the north and have less affect on Israel. The south has a more desert climate. The observed movement of the desert to the north should reduce precipitation in the center and south, also.Dayan found that the amount of rain dropped mainly in the south between 1990 and 2010. In Eilat, precipitation has fallen by 40% from the average of the years from 1981 to 2000. In contrast, precipitation in the north has fallen 4-8%. Although the decrease in precipitation will occur everywhere in Israel, it is important to note that a 10% decrease in rain in the south is about 20mm of rain whereas a 10% decrease in the north is 60mm of rain. The water shortage that is expected will be caused by the shortfall of rain in the north. It is expected to severely impact all aspects of water economy in Israel.Dayan also found that in the last thirty years air pressure over Israel has increased. This fits the pattern of the subtropic high, which is to Israel's south, but is moving further north than normal. The subtropic high has the ability to prevent rain-bearing systems from reaching Israel, reducing rain everywhere in the country.

31/03/2011 1.0-2.0 degrees Celsius.Precipitation was below average in the Center of Israel and above average in the North and in the south.Comparing the February, 2011 temperatures to the averages from 1960-1990, we find that February 2011 was higher than normal by 0.0-1.0 degrees Celsius during the day and by 0.7-3.8 degrees Celsius at night.February 2011 is the 17th consecutive month that temperatures have been above normal.February average temperatures as provided by the Israel Meteorological Service (in degrees Celsius): Beit Dagan: 10.6-20.3 Mount Canaan: 5.7-11.2 In addition, the dead and dying trees would release 5 billion metric tons of the gas in the coming years, making a total impact of about 8 billion metric tons, according to the study. In comparison, the United States emitted 5.4 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide from fossil fuel use in 2009.The combined emissions caused by the two droughts were probably enough to have canceled out the carbon absorbed by the forest over the past 10 years, the study found.La Nina, as the cyclical cooling of equatorial Pacific Ocean waters is known, triggers changes in weather across the globe, including dryness in parts of Brazil and hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean. In January 2011 measured in the atmospheric 391.16PPM greenhouse gas. When the rate of growth stands at 2.7PPM per year. Most experts advise limiting CO 2 in the atmosphere to 450 parts per million in order to avoid dangerous climate change, and the study suggests this target would be sufficient to protect the AmazonAccording to this rate, we are expected to reach values which in 22 years, until the year 2032.reuters

January 2011 finished much warmer and drier than normal in israel

January 2011 finished much warmer and drier than normal.
